My Design Process Luxury Kitchens and Baths

Learn how Jeff Boico designs luxury kitchens and bathrooms through a personalized, step-by-step process that blends premium materials, expert planning, and timeless style.

Designing a luxury kitchen or bathroom isn’t just about selecting stylish materials. For me, it’s about helping you create a space that’s personal, functional, and built with craftsmanship you can feel every day. I follow a clear step-by-step design process that brings structure and confidence to each project, guiding you from initial ideas to a beautiful, livable result.

1. Needs Evaluation: Understanding Your Vision

I always begin by sitting down with you to talk about how your current kitchen or bathroom works—and how you wish it worked. This is more than a layout discussion; it’s about learning how you live in the space. Are you frustrated by limited storage? Is the layout awkward? Do you wish it looked more modern or elegant? These kinds of questions help me shape the direction of the project right from the start.

During this phase, I also want to know what excites you visually. I encourage you to share inspiration images, style preferences, and wishlist items. Every design I create starts with this deep understanding of my client’s lifestyle, taste, and goals.

• Do you cook daily or entertain often?

I’ll tailor your kitchen layout and appliance placement based on your routine—from everyday cooking to big family dinners.

• Are you looking for better flow, more storage, or a dramatic visual change?

We prioritize what matters most to you—function, beauty, or both—and I design accordingly.

• Do you have any must-haves, inspiration photos, or frustrations you want solved?

Your preferences and pain points are my design roadmap. They guide every decision I make from layout to finish selection.

2. Material Selection: Mood Boards and Samples

With your goals clearly defined, I move into the creative part of the process—selecting the materials that will shape the overall look and feel of your space. This phase is hands-on and collaborative. I present curated mood boards featuring finishes, textures, hardware, cabinetry styles, and surfaces that reflect your unique style.

• Mood Boards: Turning Inspiration into a Clear Vision

Once we’ve explored materials together, I use those selections to build a personalized mood board. It’s a visual toolkit that brings together your cabinetry, countertops, hardware, paint colors, and tile in one place. Mood boards let us evaluate how everything works together before committing—ensuring balance, tone, and style.
I often reference mood boards during planning to keep the vision cohesive throughout the process.

• In-Person Showroom Visits

Before making final selections, I bring you to trusted local showrooms. This gives you a chance to see and touch cabinetry finishes, stone slabs, and fixtures in real lighting and scale. It’s the best way to ensure each choice feels perfect for your space.

• Inspiration from My Past Projects

I often reference work from my portfolio to show how similar styles and finishes come together in real spaces.

3. Preliminary Planning: Layouts and 3D Visuals

Now that we’ve established your design vision and material palette, I begin shaping your space. I produce detailed floor plans and 3D renderings that show how everything will come together.

• Preliminary Floor Plans

I create scaled layouts that show how your kitchen or bathroom will function—from appliance placement to traffic flow.

• Perspective 3D Renderings

You’ll see realistic visuals of your space before construction starts, which helps you feel confident in the direction we’re headed.

• Photos from Real Projects

• Material and Fixture Confirmation

Before moving forward, I make sure all your selections—lighting, faucets, hardware—feel right together and meet your expectations.

4. Final Design: Drawings and Build-Ready Details

Once the plan is finalized, I prepare comprehensive technical drawings that act as a blueprint for construction. Every cabinet, tile line, and lighting placement is detailed to ensure that the final result matches the vision.

• Finalized Floor Plan

This version includes all approved revisions and selections, down to exact measurements and appliance locations.

• To-Scale Wall Elevations

I provide detailed wall drawings showing cabinetry, tile layouts, electrical, and plumbing specs.

• Renderings of the Finished Space

These visuals offer peace of mind, giving you a glimpse of the final space before work begins.

5. Construction: Hands-On Management and Quality Execution

My Team executing

With the design fully approved and materials delivered, I move confidently into the build phase. What sets me apart here is my commitment to meticulous execution. I don’t just hand off the plans—instead, I remain closely involved until your space is complete.

• I Wait Until All Materials Are On-Site

This ensures we don’t hit delays and that your timeline remains realistic and efficient.

• One Contractor From Start to Finish

You’ll have a dedicated contractor on-site throughout your project who knows your design, space, and schedule inside and out.

• I Personally Oversee the Work

I make regular site visits, check progress daily, and handle all coordination to ensure everything is installed exactly as planned.

My Core Design Values

Throughout every project, I stay true to what matters most: creating luxury spaces that are beautiful, practical, and built to last. My approach combines thoughtful design, tailored solutions, and top-tier craftsmanship.
